# Link your WhatsApp number

Prove your number to RareMachine by sending it a one-time code from WhatsApp.

## What you'll need

- Your own RareMachine account in a workspace.
- The phone with the WhatsApp number you want to link.

## Link your number

  1. **Open Connections**
   In the sidebar, choose **Connections**. Every member can link their own number here, even before a CRM is connected.

  2. **Start the link**
   In the **Only you** section, find the **WhatsApp** card. Optionally enter your number in **WhatsApp number (optional)**, then choose **Connect WhatsApp**.

  3. **Open WhatsApp with your code**
   RareMachine shows a code that starts with `LINK-`. Choose **Open WhatsApp** and the code is already in the message. If it does not open, choose **Copy** and paste the code into WhatsApp yourself.

  4. **Send the message**
   Send the message from the phone with the number you are linking, to the RareMachine number WhatsApp opened.

       **Note:** The code is single use and expires. The page counts down the minutes while it says **Waiting for your message**.

  5. **Wait for Connected**
   Keep the Connections page open. It updates by itself and shows **Connected** with your number.

Result: the WhatsApp card shows **Connected** and your number, and messages from that number now reach your workspace.

## If the link does not finish

- `That message came from a different number than the one you entered. Start again with the right number.` Send the code from the number you typed, or leave the number field empty and start again.
- `That number is already linked to another account. Ask your admin to revoke the old link first.` An admin can revoke the old link on the **Members** tab in Settings.
- `That code expired before the message arrived. Generate a new one.` Choose **Connect WhatsApp** again to get a new code.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I have to type my number first?

No. The number field is optional. If you enter a number, the code must come from that number. If you leave it empty, RareMachine links whichever number sends the code.

### How do I change my number?

On Connections, choose Disconnect on the WhatsApp card and confirm. Then connect the new number the same way. Messages from the old number stop reaching your workspace.

### Can an admin remove someone's link?

Yes. Admins can revoke a teammate's number. On the Members tab in Settings, open the member's row menu and choose Revoke WhatsApp number.
